ORRC 2004 Awards Recipients

|
CLUB APPRECIATION AWARD
GODFATHER'S PIZZA
This award goes to Godfather's pizza at Peterkort, a company
who has gone out of its way to help ORRC. Once a month our Tuesday
night group invades their establishment, and they not only provide
us with great pizza at a great price, but they have always been
generously accommodating to our requests and space requirements.

JOURNALISM AWARD - JAY GOLDSTEIN
This award goes to someone who helps keep our ODR magazine one
of the best running/walking club magazines in the US. Jay has
been providing the Oregon Distance Runner Magazine with informational
articles for a number of years. He has been a member of ORRC
since 1989 and participates in several events each year. |
|
| |
KATHY WEIDKAMP VOLUNTEER
AWARD - MATT PERKINS
This award is named after a family-oriented volunteer who passed
away several years ago. She was a huge supporter of ORRC, not
necessarily as a member, but as a supporter of her family. This
year the award goes to Matt Perkins. You will constantly see
Matt at the expos and ORRC store helping his mother, Celia.
I personally have never heard him complain about the long hours
or having to get up early to help. |
|
| |
VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD
- DEBBIE, JASMINE, ASHLEY AND TOREN ANDERSON
This award goes to a person or, in this case, a group of people
who are always willing to help at races. |
|
| |
AL NAKATA AWARD - DAVE HARRISON
This is the 2nd year for this award. Al Nakata was a long time
member of ORRC who continued to run races into his 80's. He
exemplified the ultimate way to live active, never complaining,
always smiling. This award goes to someone who exemplifies the
same traits as Al. Dave is a long time ORRC runner who not only
runs often and runs well, but at 75 years young, has participated
in 54 events in 2004. Al would be proud! |

MOST INSPIRATIONAL RUNNER
AWARD- CHUCK COATS
This award goes to a member who inspires others by making the
most of what life has to offer. Chuck was a very good high school
and college runner. But, like many people, he suffered through
some untimely and very tough life experiences. And after a 20-year
layoff from running, he has come back with "flying" (we mean
literally) "flying", colors. His feet never seem to be on the
ground. Hopefully you read about him in the November/December
ODR issue. |

Walker of
the Year - George Opsahl
George is not just a walker, but also someone who is dedicated
to the art of race walking. He participates in numerous races
throughout the US, and is a judge for racing events. Many runners
who have been passed by George in a race feel a bit down afterwards.
but it is a compliment to George's ability, not a put-down.
They should feel good about it instead. |
