U.S. Olympic Committee Selects Team Chiropractor from Oregon
for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games
Medical director of sports injuries clinic in Beaverton, OR, heads to China
Portland, OR—June 17, 2008— The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) has selected Ted L. Forcum, DC, DACBSP, as one of three team chiropractors for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team competing at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Aug. 8-24. He is the only team chiropractor from the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Forcum is medical director of Back In Motion (BIM) Sports Injuries Clinic, LLC, Beaverton, OR, a private practice he established in 1988.
As team chiropractor, Dr. Forcum will provide chiropractic services to world-class U.S. athletes competing in Beijing for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Dr. Forcum’s official selection as team chiropractor was a 10-year process. The USOC requirements include applicants having a minimum of five years as a team physician, national level experience in world-class sporting events, and sports-related degree(s) and certifications. After Dr. Forcum’s application was received, he served a 2-week internship in 2004 in Colorado Springs, Colo., where USOC staff and athletes evaluated him. The USOC then sent him to work at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 13-29, 2007.
“I am looking forward to my participation in the greatest sporting event on earth. I have wanted to be involved since I was 12 years old,” says Dr. Forcum. “To be a part of the Olympic team spirit and camaraderie surrounded by Beijing’s culture, beauty, and history is incredibly exciting.”

Since 1988, Dr. Forcum has served as team physician for many sports organizations And events, including the U.S. Olympic Committee at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; the 2005 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, in Portland, OR; the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah; the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour from 2001-06; the USA Track & Field National Championships in 1993-95, 1999, 2001-03, and 2005-07; the 1998 NIKE World Masters Games, Portland, OR; and the 1988 World Veterans Games in Eugene, OR
Professional Affiliations
Dr. Forcum is a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee Sports Medicine Society, Federation Internationale de Chiropractique Sportive, U.S. Sports Chiropractic Federation, and International College of Chiropractic, Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research. Since 2004, he has served as second vice president of the American Chiropractic Association Council on Sports Injuries and Physical Fitness.
Education and Certifications
Dr. Forcum earned his Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree in 1988 from Western States Chiropractic College, Portland, OR, and a Bachelor of Science degree in 1984 from Willamette University, Salem, OR He is a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (DACBSP), the first chiropractor in the Pacific Northwest to receive this highest level of sports designation. In addition, Dr. Forcum is a Fellow of the International College of Chiropractors (FICC), and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He is one of a select group of certified lead instructors of the Gaston Technique® and is the only certified instructor in the state of Oregon.
