Wildwood Trail Trial 10k
Monday, September 6, 2004 (Labor Day)

On Labor Day (Monday morning, Sept. 6), run a 10K downhill on the Wildwood Trail. ORRC Wildwood Trail Trial is a unique race on trails in beautiful Forest Park, and the last Great Summer 10K! Forest Park is the largest naturally forested urban USA park, covering over 5,000 acres and 70+ mi. of trails. ORRC WTT is a "cool" way to end the summer, and benefits two great causes: Human Solutions, Inc. & Snow-Cap Community Charities, helping the homeless and low income families. Don't miss it!

On-line sign-up

REGISTRATION Register online here, go to your favorite athletic store for a race flyer to register by mail, or download the flyer from www.orrc.net and register by mail. If your registration is RECEIVED by 8/31, then the registration rate is at the early registration rate ($20 generally, or $15 for current ORRC members). Current students (elem., middle and high school only) get a great perk - $5 registration (without T-shirt)! Race Day entries are $25 for everyone, so pre-register and save big bucks! T-SHIRTS (Guaranteed for Pre-Registered Only) Your early entry will assure you of the event T-Shirt (50/50 short sleeve) - but only if you register by 8/31. T-shirts are not guaranteed if you register after 8/31, but will be available while supplies last! All T-shirt sizes are in "adult" sizes. The $5 Student race entry fee does not include a T-shirt, but you can buy one separately>

START IN ONE MINUTE INTERVALS Runners start in 1-minute intervals, from 8:30 to 11:30 am, in heats of 4 or fewer. Start times are assigned at the start line, on Fire Lane 1. 10 am and 11 am starts are usually wide open. Run with your friends! Note: the course closes at 12:30 pm for everyone, so take a good guess at your start time before deciding to start with the final groups of runners! START AND FINISH AREAS The start is at Fire Lane 1, off NW 53rd, off NW Thompson (approx. 2900 NW 53rd Avenue, Portland, OR 97210). The finish is in Upper MacLeay Park (approx. 5151 NW Cornell Rd.). While there is parking at both the start and finish, it is more ample at the finish line. The ORRC vans will shuttle you back and forth.

THE COURSE Packed earth trail with many turns. Mostly good surface but with some rocks, roots, and occasional slugs. Registration and Start at the junction of the Wildwood Trail and Fire Lane 1, proceed south to Upper MacLeay Park. A 650' elevation loss in the first 5.7 miles and a 200' climb in the last half mile.

AID STATIONS AND SUPPORT Restrooms are at the start and finish areas. There is water at the start, mile 2, and the finish area. Clothing will be transported by ORRC for you to the finish area.

CHARITIES YOU SUPPORT BY RUNNING: $5 of your entry fee goes to Human Solutions, Inc., which (through a consortium of churches) helps homeless families gain self-sufficiency by providing temporary, safe housing and support. Snow-Cap Community Charities (which provides food, clothing and help for families in need in East Multnomah Co.) will benefit if you drop off new school supplies (and you get a $1 refund!), or donate your excess running shirts or other clothes. Drop boxes for Snow-Cap are at Start and Finish areas.

RESULTS AND AWARDS Results are mailed to each finisher, posted on the ORRC website (www.orrc.net), and published in ORRC's running magazine, the Oregon Distance Runner. Overall awards are given to the first place finishers (male and female, first male and female masters and, first male and female students). Ribbons are given in 5-year age divisions (0-4, 5-9, 10-14, 15-19, and 5-year increments thereafter to 85 & up).
